Growing up in the south, everywhere I could travel to is northern. It's so exciting, South West Trains struggle to fit all the destinations on their signs, and begin to lump them all into one category: 'The NORTH'.

This always makes me smile. It's like nowhere beyond Birmingham is worth mentioning. It's cold and dark, with border controls you'll struggle to pass. This isn't actually true: the boundary is at Banbury.

Then I see that in Cornwall it's even worse:

Tedious about the author bit

Radio producer and travel historian. I write about travel patterns, urban development, heavy machinery and lists.

I love the places people pass through along their journey, and societies that have been shaped by our need to get around.

Experienced entertainment and talk show producer.

I can't tell you how many bad ideas I've had. But it's a lot of bad ideas.
